About FabledPlaces
FabledPlaces is a collection of the world's most beautiful places: natural wonders, architecture, ancient sites and places of legend. It is not a travel booking site and not a directory of everything — it is a selection.
How places are chosen
A place joins the collection only if it would be worth a detour for an attentive traveller who loves such places. A good national example of its kind is not enough; the bar is world class. Beauty decides, not fame: a little-known waterfall can make it, a famous but plain building may not.
Lists such as “The Most Beautiful Places in Italy” open with places chosen by hand for how striking they are; the rest follow our ranking.
Our texts
Every place has its own article written for FabledPlaces. Facts — dates, heights, architects, events — are checked against independent sources; legends are told as legends.
Photographs and data
Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and Pixabay. The author and the licence are shown on the image itself; small thumbnails link to the place page, where the credit appears. Facts such as coordinates, heights and dates are drawn from open data: Wikidata, OpenStreetMap, GeoNames and OurAirports.
Your collection
You can save places with the bookmark and share your collection as a link. There is no account and nothing to sign up for: the collection stays in your browser.
