In short: By our ranking, the most beautiful places in Giza are Giza pyramid complex, Pyramid of Djoser and The Great Sphinx. The list covers 6 places. Last updated 13 October 2026.
The governorate of Giza, on the west bank of the Nile, holds the desert plateau where the pharaohs of the Old Kingdom chose to be buried. The cemeteries of ancient Memphis stretch along it for dozens of kilometres, from Giza through Saqqara to Dahshur, and here Egyptian builders worked out, step by step, how to raise a true pyramid. Nowhere else on Earth can the early history of monumental stone architecture be followed so directly.
The story begins at Saqqara with the Pyramid of Djoser, a stack of six stone steps designed by the architect Imhotep and often described as the oldest large cut-stone building in the world. At Dahshur, the Bent Pyramid of Sneferu changes its angle partway up, a visible record of builders correcting their design. The Giza pyramid complex then shows the form perfected, with the Great Pyramid of Khufu as the last surviving wonder of the ancient world.
Beside it, the Great Sphinx, carved from the bedrock of the plateau, guards the causeway to Khafre's pyramid. Underground at Saqqara, the Serapeum holds long galleries of huge granite sarcophagi made for the sacred Apis bulls. And at the edge of the plateau, the Grand Egyptian Museum gathers treasures from across Egypt, including the burial goods of Tutankhamun.

The Giza plateau, on the edge of the Western Desert above modern Giza, holds the most famous group of monuments on Earth: the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, and the temples, causeways and cemeteries that served them. All were built during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty, roughly 2600 to 2500 BC.
Did you know? Workers cut the softer limestone with copper tools, but wore down hard granite with abrasive sand and powders before finishing it with copper.

On the plateau of Saqqara, above the ruins of ancient Memphis, stands the building where Egyptian monumental architecture begins. The Step Pyramid was raised in the 27th century BC for Djoser, a king of the Third Dynasty known in his own time by his Horus name Netjerikhet.
Did you know? The entrance colonnade has 40 ribbed limestone columns, each almost 6 metres tall and carved with 17 to 19 ribs.

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a lion with a human head, carved directly out of the limestone bedrock of the Giza Plateau and facing east toward the Nile Valley. It is 73 metres long from paws to tail and 20 metres high, and is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt.
Did you know? The head was carved from a harder limestone layer than the soft middle of the body, which is why the head survives better than the torso.

Look at the Bent Pyramid's silhouette and you're watching an engineering crisis happen in stone, frozen mid-decision. The lower two-thirds rise at a steep 54 degrees; then, abruptly, the angle flattens to about 43 degrees for the rest of the climb.
Did you know? Its ancient name is usually translated as 'Sneferu Shines in the South' or 'The Southern Shining Pyramid'.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest museum in the world devoted to a single civilisation, and it was built to be seen together with the monuments that inspired it: the site lies about 2 km northwest of the Pyramids of Giza, and its long north and south walls are aligned with the Great Pyramid of Khufu and theโฆ
Did you know? The Ramesses II colossus reached the museum site in 2006 but waited twelve years, until 2018, before being placed in the atrium.

Deep under the desert at Saqqara runs a corridor lined with enormous stone boxes, each cut from a single block of granite or basalt and big enough to hold a bull. This is the Serapeum, the burial place of the Apis bulls, sacred animals of the god Ptah at Memphis, the old capital of Egypt.
Did you know? Only four of the 24 sarcophagi still in the vaults carry inscriptions.
Places are chosen for how they look, not for how famous they are: each one has its own description and a photograph credited to its author. The order is a single world ranking that weighs the beauty of the place in curated photography together with how widely it is documented โ the number of language editions of its encyclopedia article and how often that article is read in a year. The list is rebuilt as places are added, so the order and the counts on this page are always current.
