Why it is worth it
Siam Park is a water park in Costa Adeje, in the south of Tenerife, built around a Thai theme. It belongs to the Loro Parque group run by the Kiessling family, and was designed by Christoph Kiessling. Construction began in 2004 and cost about 52 million euros; after delays the park opened on 15 September 2008, inaugurated by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. The family received permission from the Thai royal house to use the name and theme, and out of respect avoided copying palaces, temples or Buddha images. Its 25 Thai-style buildings form one of the largest such ensembles outside Thailand.
The park is built on a hillside, and the slides follow the slope instead of standing on tall scaffolding, which gives the site a greener, more landscaped look than most water parks. The best-known ride is the Tower of Power, a near-vertical drop that ends in a transparent tube through an aquarium with sharks and rays. The Wave Palace produces waves over three metres high, among the tallest of any wave pool, above an artificial white-sand beach, and the Mai Thai River is a lazy river of great length with its own lift and slide. More recent additions include family rafts and Saifรก, a two-lane racing water coaster opened in 2023. Younger children have their own area.
The water is heated to about 25 ยฐC, which together with Tenerife's mild climate makes it a destination outside the summer too. An on-site plant desalinates sea water, and used water goes to irrigate the gardens. Siam Park has repeatedly been voted the world's best water park in Tripadvisor's travellers' rankings.
Getting there
Siam Park lies on the edge of Costa Adeje, about 6 km from the centre of Adeje. Tenerife South Airport (TFS) is about 15 km away. The park is easy to reach by car or taxi from the southern resorts.
